Abstract

The pedological characterization of the soil is essential for sustainable agriculture, since it identifies the physical and chemical properties that affect productivity. In this study, the edaphic conditions were evaluated in five districts of the Cañete Valley: Nuevo Imperial, San Luis, San Vicente de Cañete, Quilmaná and Imperial, with the objective of analyzing the texture, pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic matter (O.M.), electrical conductivity (E.C.) and permeability. 20 soil subsamples were taken per district, which were processed in the soil laboratory of the National University of Cañete. The texture varied between sandy loam and clay loam, which influenced thepermeability, which ranged between 6.4 mm/h (San Luis) and 19 mm/h (San Vicente de Cañete). The pH values indicated soils with reduced nutrient availability, ranging from 7.47 to 8.38. The CIC showed a variation between 5 meq/100gr (San Vicente de Cañete) and 17 meq/100gr (San Luis), which reflects the fertility of the soils. The organic matter was classified as poor, with values between 0.5% and 1.1%, and the soils were non-saline, with C.E. levels. less than 0.56 dS/mm. This study offers a comprehensive view of the edaphic properties of the Cañete Valley and provides a scientificbasis to improve soil management and increase agricultural productivity through adequate nutrient and irrigation management.
